After more than three decades of dedicated service to the people of Bundoran, Ballyshannon, and the wider South Donegal community, our founding partner Dr Philip Murphy has retired from general practice.

There are some people who are simply woven into the fabric of a place. Dr Philip Murphy is one of them.
Philip first came to Co. Donegal in 1990, fresh from completing his GP training — and it’s fair to say he never really left. He put down roots in Bundoran in 1997, and in 2001 he became one of the founding partners of Bayview Family Practice, helping to build from the ground up the practice that so many families in this community have come to rely on.
He graduated from UCD in 1985 and went on to earn diplomas in Child Health, Obstetrics, and Family Planning, becoming a Member of the Irish College of General Practice. But letters after a name only tell part of the story. What the community knows is that Philip Murphy truly cared.
He brought a depth of expertise that went well beyond the consultation room. For seven years he served as the Continuing Medical Education Tutor for Donegal, supporting his GP colleagues across the county. Since 1998 he has taught undergraduate medical students from NUI Galway, helping shape the next generation of doctors. And for those patients who know their joints or their ears or their blood sugar as well as he does, they’ll know that his specialist interests — diabetes care, minor surgery, and joint injections — were delivered with the kind of quiet skill that makes you feel in safe hands.
Beyond all of that, Philip has been a genuine servant of this community in ways that go far beyond the surgery. As medical officer to the Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat, he has stood ready to support the brave volunteers who put themselves at risk on the water. As medical officer to Sligo Rovers, he brought the same care to the pitch that he brought to the practice. These weren’t obligations — they were choices, and they say a great deal about the man.
And then there is the other side of Dr Murphy: the one who will freely admit to being an enthusiastic, if somewhat humbled, golfer, and a fairweather surfer and an all weather swimmer who clearly had the good taste to settle on one of the most beautiful coastlines in Ireland. We suspect retirement will suit these pursuits very well.

**To Philip, from all of us at Bayview Family Practice:**
Thank you. Thank you for your vision in helping found this practice. Thank you for the standard of care you set, and for the warmth and commitment you brought every single day. The patients you have looked after over the years are lucky to have had you — many of them for their entire lives, and in some cases across generations of the same family.
You leave behind a practice that is stronger for everything you have built and given. We will miss your steadying presence, your humour, and your counsel more than words can say.
We wish you, Olivia and all your family every happiness in your retirement — may the greens be kind, the waves be forgiving, and the Wild Atlantic Way outside your door be a daily reminder of the community you served so faithfully.
Thank you
