Ante-Natal Care

We provide the Combined Care Scheme (Mother and Infant Scheme) for all our antenatal patients.

Under the scheme your antenatal care is shared by GPs and the local obstetric team at the hospital. Antenatal care under the Combined Care Scheme is free of charge. See schedule of visits below to see what is included*. Please note however, that other visits outside of the covered schedule of visits will still incur the usual consultation charge.

Ideally you should attend one of our doctors as soon as you discover you are pregnant so we can refer you for an early dating scan (carried out at around 11 weeks’ gestation).

Please have your PPS number to hand for your first antenatal visit, as it is required for the HSE registration for this combined care scheme.

Your antenatal visits will alternate between the GPs and the hospital and become more frequent as the pregnancy progresses. The Combined Care Scheme also includes a 6 week check for mother and baby.

The usual schedule for GP visits which are covered under the Combined Care Scheme is

  • before 12 weeks
  • 24 weeks
  • 28 weeks ( only 2nd and subequent pregnancies)
  • 30 weeks
  • 34 weeks
  • 37 weeks
  • 39 weeks but these may be varied
