Bayview Family Practice, Dr Hanna Balytska, and HSE Social Inclusion CH CDLMS were recently announced as winners of the Patient Choice GP Buddy award 2024.
This award acknowledges the commitment, innovative and collaborative work between Dr Hanna Balytska, staff at Bayview Family Practice and HSE Social Inclusion CH CDLMS in addressing the health needs of the Ukrainian Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection in South Donegal. These awards were held in the Johnstown Estate, Co. Meath on the Saturday 7th September.
Dr Hanna Balytska was one of the early arrivals to Ireland fleeing the war in Ukraine to receive Temporary Protection from the state. She initially assisted staff in Bayview Family Practice with interpretation of medical terminology for Ukrainian patients and subsequently joined the practice with the assistance of HSE Social Inclusion. . Having a Ukrainian Doctor has facilitated Ukrainian cultural awareness during GP consultations, overcomes the language barrier and assists Ukrainian patients to navigate the Irish Healthcare system while highlighting how that may differ from the system in Ukraine.
