Under 4’s
If your child is under 4 (that is, 3 or younger) and has symptoms of COVID-19, book a PCR test for them. Do not book antigen tests.
You also need to keep them at home and isolate them from other people.

They need to isolate (stay in their room) and stay away from other people. They should start isolating as soon as you notice symptoms of COVID-19.
As you will be caring for your child, you should also read the advice on caring for someone who cannot self-isolate.
How long they need to isolate depends on the results of their PCR test.

Over 39’s
If you are over 39 (that is, 40 or older) and have symptoms of COVID-19, book a PCR test. Do not book antigen tests.
You also need to self-isolate (stay in your room). There is a high risk you could spread the virus.

Aged 4-39
Those aged 4-39 are advised if they have symptoms to have antigen tests 1stly before PCR testing. If antigen test is positive then a PCR test is recommended.

Close Contacts
If you are a close contact of someone who tested positive for COVID-19, you will get a text message from the HSE with a link to get tested.
If you have symptoms, you should get a PCR test.
If you do not have symptoms, we will give you antigen tests.
It’s important to use the link in the text message you get to book your antigen tests. Do not use any other link. Do not book a PCR test.
