Michael was educated in St Mel’s College Longford and University College Dublin graduating in Medicine in 1986. He completed his Internship in the Mater Hospital Dublin and Sligo University Hospital. Following rotations in Paediatrics in Crumlin, Geriatrics, Psychiatry and Emergency Medicine in James Connolly he travelled to Edinburgh to complete his General Practice training.
He then moved to Nottingham to work with the NHS as a GP. In Nottingham he developed an interest in Musculoskeletal Medicine and Pain management while working at the Pain Unit in the City Hospital. He completed a Diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine and a Masters in Pain Management with the University of Wales in Cardiff in addition to training in acupuncture and hypnosis.
He returned to Ireland in 2004 to join the Bayview Family Practice. He is an active member of the local Continuing Medical Education group and a former Secretary of the Sligo GP Society.
He is married with three children and in his spare time enjoys hiking in the hills.
